Friyie is up next out of Toronto

Toronto’s upcoming musical talent, Friyie, is a great example of “you never know where life will take you.” Born David Afriyie Obeng, the artist got his start in music when he decided to respond to a high school diss aimed at him. The random shot aimed at him sent him to get equipment to record and he’s been recording ever since. However, that wasn’t his first experience in music, as he attributes some of his style to the Soul and Afro-Jazz he experienced growing up in a Ghanaian Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Friyie’s music exhibits a distinct style that blends raw lyricism about ambition, resilience, and the immigrant experience with a melodic blend of Rap, R&B, and Afrobeats. He first gained attention in the local music scene with his 2016 single "Come and See Me," where he blended catchy hooks with introspective verses. His breakout moment came in 2017 when his single "Money Team Anthem" became the official walkout song for boxing legend Floyd Mayweather during his high-profile fight against Conor McGregor. This opportunity catapulted Friyie into the international spotlight, earning him recognition beyond Canada.

As Friyie continues to release new music, he is poised to become one of the country’s leading artists, with a sound and story that resonates far beyond the borders of his home country. His journey from the streets of Toronto to the global stage is a testament to his talent, determination, and the growing influence of Canadian hip-hop on the world.
